Rocking Chair

This is a sketchbook assignment I drew of a rocking chair in my guest bedroom. I positioned it so that you could clearly tell it was in front of the exit to the room. If you notice in the background, I left the bathroom door open. It serves as a second pathway into the picture.

Abstract Portrait

Three things I learned for this exercise:
1. You can do a paint a picture with just three colors.
2. The faster you paint, the more it will look like you.
3. A painting isn't always about detail, it it successful as long as it has your "look".

What was the most difficult thing i needed to solve to be successful?

Usually when I draw or paint I like to put a lot of detail into it. It this exercise I need to overcome this a learn to paint fast and a little bit abstract. My painting my not resemble a photo of me but at least it has my look and that makes it successful.

What was the most fun part about this exercise?

I really liked the freedom in this exercise. We weren't being graded on precision. It was fun because I didn't have to worry about nailing every part of my facial features. I liked painting abstract for once.

Christmas Ornament

This is the sketchbook assignment I did for the Christmas Ornament. For this assignment I set up a golden star on my desk and put the light to the left of it.

Self Portrait

This is a self-portrait I just finished last week using scratchboard. I was trying to portray a feeling of happiness in this picture. I thought it was be really cool to put my face in the picture frame so that way it's almost like there's two pictures in one. To achieve the lighting in this picture I went into a closet with the lights off and set up a light on the right side of my face. Considering this is only my second scratchboard drawing I think it was a success, yet there is still much room for improvement.

Sleeping Dog

This is a sketchbook assignment that I completed a couple weeks ago. It is a sketch of my friend's dog. I made the entire background black so that the dog would pop out of the picture and he would be the first thing you look at.

Jim Sturgess

This is a drawing I did of actor Jim Sturgess, most commonly known as "Jude" from the movie Across the Universe.

The Man With The Hat

This is a picture I did with black ink and white gesso paint. I covered the whole page with the black india ink and then painted the man with the white. I really like this picture becasue I left so much out, yet you can still tell that it's a man with a hat.
